World Breastfeeding Week Positive Media Blitz

During the first full week of August, the global breastfeeding community joins together to celebrate our common bond: love of all things breastfeeding-related.

In recent years, the media coverage of breastfeeding has been inconsistent with recommendations of every major health organization. Some media outlets have allowed negative stories to air.

We want to collaborate to bring the positive to the eyes and ears of the world audience.

Our overarching goal is to normalize breastfeeding

To do so, we aim to:
1. Bring attention to the laws that protect breastfeeding
2. Share information on the short and long term health benefits of breastfeeding
3. Promote the "hard facts" (research) that supports breastfeeding
4. Support media outlets who release positive stories
5. Promote the WABA World Breastfeeding Week theme

Our action items are to:

1. Flood all media with requests for positive stories about breastfeeding
2. Attend television program tapings in global media markets (New York, Los Angeles, etc.) while breastfeeding (or holding signs in support of breastfeeding)
3. Share positive stories to the World Breastfeeding Week Positive Media Blitz event page and to support pages/groups we own or join
4. "Like" the supporting pages for exclusive updates
5. Tag stories with #positivebreastfeeding
6. Openly and warmly praise mothers on their breastfeeding journey, as well as the people (health professionals, relatives, etc.) who support them; make your everyday life worthy of being POSITIVE NEWS!

This event is a spinoff of the Nurse-In at the Today Show on Saturday, May 23, 2015 - an effort with a global reach of 700,000.

We thank you our supporters for making this a wildly successful collaboration!
