FEATURED ADVOCATE OF THE WEEK
Katie Heddleston is the #PositiveBreastfeeding Advocate of the Week. Katie owns Healthy Heddleston, a Positive Breastfeeding Media Outlet. She recounts some of her positive experiences with breastfeeding:
"I am currently on a journey breastfeeding my third kiddo, but some of my fondest and certainly positive breastfeeding memories are from my first journey.
"Right away I realized I had an oversupply and knew my son would never get through all the milk I was freezing. This first picture shows my first pickup for milk donation, which I was able to continue giving during his whole first year of life.
"My second image captures one of our very last nursing sessions - a comforting moment after a fall outside. He was 17 months old at this time and I was 20 weeks pregnant. The little guy whom I was pregnant with ended up nursing until 26 months old - another check in the positive breastfeeding column - since I inherently became an advocate for toddler nursing as people questioned why he was still nursing.
"Be strong in your convictions mamas; there is something positive to find in each of your breastfeeding journeys - no matter how short or long it may be."
Thank you, Katie, for keeping it positive!

MEDIA BLITZ ACTION OF THE WEEK
Get ready for World Breastfeeding Week! Each week from now through the beginning of August, we will provide action steps to achieve a well-attended, well publicized breastfeeding awareness event with a strong media presence.
Does your local group still need to schedule an event? Great! You can help!
Decide together what ideas could be successful events in your area.
1. What is your PURPOSE? Some reasons to gather include:
Celebrating breastfeeding (in general)
Focusing on the year's theme
Learning from the wisdom of others (such as guest speakers or pro-breastfeeding films)
Bringing awareness to laws and/or health organization recommendations re: breastfeeding
Giving back to the community
Literature distribution
Thanking/pampering breastfeeding mothers
A combination of all of the above
Something else new and exciting
Decide on your purpose and scope together, and make sure everyone is on board with it.
2. What are your ACTIVITIES? Examples of activities that have worked for other groups include:
Picnics (potluck or catered)
Gatherings at pools/splash pads
Family outings at playgrounds/zoos
